Garden

Estelle Garden

Over the last few years we have been developing our own cutting garden to use in our floristry work, especially for our beautiful weddings.

We grow a selection of both hardy and tender annuals, all sorts of perennials and flowering shrubs chosen for their suitability to our climate and our desire to have both unusual blooms and lovely fresh product.

The growing season for tender annuals is relatively short in Dunedin due to a short summer. We start with tulips, narcissi and hardy annuals in spring and then tender annuals grown from seed such as cosmos, sunflowers and strawflowers through summer, followed by perennials in late summer- eg dahlias, scabiosa and hydrangea. In autumn we have chrysanthemums, and asters, followed by some lovely fragrant winter flowering shrubs like Daphne.

We compost, create soil by layering, and avoid the use of any chemicals to keep the garden ecology as healthy and pest free as possible. We are committed to keeping the garden in it’s more natural state, as nature intended.
